Can You Connect an Existing UAE Business Number to an AI Receptionist?
Assess an existing UAE number for AI call answering with a clear route diagram, provider questions, fallback plan and representative telephone tests.

To connect a UAE business number to an AI receptionist, begin with the provider and proposed call route. The presence of a +971 number does not tell you whether it can be forwarded, connected through SIP or used for outbound callbacks in the arrangement you want.
Keeping an established number may be commercially important, but it is a requirement to assess rather than a capability to assume. A useful feasibility review ends with a documented route, clear responsibilities and a way to restore normal answering if the pilot fails.
Describe the number you actually have
Collect the account holder, provider, number type and current answering arrangement. Record whether calls reach a handset, a hosted phone system or an existing reception team. Ask who can change the routing and who receives provider notices.
Then describe the desired change in one sentence. For example, this hypothetical business wants unanswered inbound calls to reach an assistant after office hours, with staff retaining normal daytime answering. That is a narrower requirement than replacing the entire phone system or adding automated outbound campaigns.
Use Burki's UAE business page to discuss that exact scenario. The available route must be established for the account; a country page should not be read as a universal carrier-compatibility statement.
Ask for the full route, including the return path
Draw the proposed sequence from caller to existing provider, phone system, assistant and any human destination. Label each provider involved. Include where a transfer or callback would originate, because these can introduce another call leg with different terms and costs.
Ask the provider or qualified implementation partner to confirm the permitted configuration. TDRA describes VoIP provision as regulated and ties it to licensed providers or approved collaboration. That makes the actual arrangement important; it does not justify guessing that every AI answering configuration is either allowed or prohibited. TDRA guidance
If Twilio is part of the proposal, read its UAE-specific terms. They distinguish geographic inbound use and toll-free requirements, including termination and third-party restrictions. Those are Twilio's stated conditions, not a substitute for checking another provider's contract. Twilio UAE voice guidelines
Get answers to the questions that change the design
Before changing anything, resolve the following:
- Which inbound calls will reach the assistant, and under what condition?
- Does the original caller number reach the destination correctly?
- Where does an unanswered transfer go?
- Can staff restore the previous route without help from several vendors?
- Which party bills each call leg and the number itself?
- Which exact inbound and outbound uses has the provider confirmed?
The BYO SIP overview can help explain the components. It should be paired with account-specific evidence, particularly where forwarding, registration or a phone-system gateway is involved.
Prove the proposed route with representative calls
A browser conversation proves little about the existing business number. Test through the intended telephone route with authorized participants. Check that both sides can hear each other, that corrections are understood and that the call ends cleanly.
Use the operating conditions that matter to the business: open hours, closed hours, a busy destination and an unavailable staff member. If a human transfer is included and supported in the selected configuration, test that exact path. Do not treat a displayed transfer label as proof that the employee answered.
Document which scenarios passed and which remain unavailable. Keep a phone-system contact and an assistant-platform contact on the same acceptance record so an issue is not bounced between providers without ownership.
Keep the first change reversible
Choose a limited answering window or explicitly selected route for the pilot. Preserve the original settings and name the person who can restore them. Agree on the condition for stopping the test, such as one-way audio or a failed fallback.
Once the business has a verified route, it can evaluate the conversation itself with more confidence. Bring the number details, desired answering rule and provider confirmation to Burki to assess the next implementation step.
