Voice AI services: self-serve platform, agency or managed service?
Compare who configures, operates and owns a voice assistant before choosing a self-serve platform, implementation agency or managed service.
Table of Contents▼
A business can configure a voice assistant itself, hire an implementation agency or purchase a managed service. These choices distribute work differently. None is automatically cheaper or faster; compare the task, integration effort and ongoing responsibilities in the actual proposal.
Compare operating models
| Model | Work the business should expect | What to clarify |
|---|---|---|
| Self-serve platform | Own business facts, instructions, connections and call review | Who handles telephone setup and production incidents? |
| Implementation agency | Supply requirements and review the delivered workflow | Who owns the accounts and maintains integrations after handover? |
| Managed service | Approve scope and oversee service outcomes | Which changes, usage and support are included or billed separately? |
Burki is a self-serve voice platform. An agency may help a customer use it, but that does not imply a Burki-operated implementation service or service-level agreement.
Compare total operating cost
Ask for platform charges, model usage, carrier usage, number rental, optional storage and implementation or support fees separately. Include the business's time spent reviewing calls and correcting failures. For provider credentials supplied by the customer, some costs can appear on a separate provider bill.
Use your actual call-duration and volume assumptions. A completed four-minute conversation is not necessarily a resolved request, so compare cost per verified outcome as well as cost per minute. See pricing for Burki's current explanation and verify the selected configuration's quote.
Require a representative demonstration
Provide the same short script to each candidate: an ordinary request, a correction, an unknown question and an unavailable action. Observe the result in the connected system, not only the spoken confirmation. If telephone service is required, test the proposed carrier route and its human fallback.
Record response delays from the same point in the conversation instead of comparing unrelated latency labels. No universal threshold or vendor demo establishes suitability for your callers.
Plan changes and exit
Agree who can edit instructions, publish a version and restore the previous routing. Clarify access to prompts, call records, numbers and integration credentials if the relationship ends. Verify these terms in the proposed contract rather than assuming the account belongs to your business.
Choose the model that leaves a clear owner for both successful calls and failures. Start with one useful task; the creation guide shows how to scope it before buying a broader service.
